Di era di mana kemandirian dan keberlanjutan bukan sekadar kata kunci, inisiatif pendidikan transformatif di Pulau Panggang menunjukkan jalan keluarnya.
Agustino Zulys, Ketua Tim Pengabdian Masyarakat sekaligus Dosen berdedikasi Departemen Kimia Fakultas Matematika dan Sains Universitas Indonesia, merupakan dalang di balik mata kuliah pembuatan sabun ini.
Objektifnya adalah untuk memberdayakan individu dengan pengetahuan dan keterampilan praktis untuk membuat sabun menggunakan bahan-bahan dari kehidupan sehari-hari.
Tapi kenapa sabun? “Sangat penting bagi peserta untuk memahami standar, protokol keselamatan, dan teknik evaluasi pembuatannya,” jelas Dr. Zulys.

Dia percaya dalam memberikan pemahaman mendalam tentang proses, memastikan bahwa produk memenuhi standar kualitas.
Setelah ikhtisar teori yang komprehensif, peserta mendalami kerajinan sabun secara langsung.
Mensimulasikan proses memungkinkan mereka mengubah teori menjadi praktik, mengubah bahan sehari-hari menjadi sabun berkualitas tinggi yang dapat digunakan.
Inisiatif ini tidak berhenti di situ. Ke-20 peserta, termasuk warga setempat dan perwakilan Desa Pulau Panggang, diberikan perlengkapan seminar yang dikurasi secara khusus, untuk memastikan mereka memiliki semua alat dan bahan untuk memulai perjalanan pembuatannya.
Sofiah, SIP, Kepala Seksi Kesejahteraan Masyarakat Desa Pulau Panggang, sangat antusias dengan inisiatif ini. “Kegiatan inovatif seperti ini sangat bermanfaat,” katanya.
Ia menekankan perlunya pendampingan yang berkelanjutan, memastikan bahwa ini bukan hanya lokakarya yang hanya dilakukan sekali saja, namun merupakan awal dari gerakan pembuatan sabun berkelanjutan di pulau tersebut.
Selain kebersihan dan swasembada, ada visi ekonomi yang terkait dengan proyek ini. Pulau ini, yang merupakan rumah bagi perpaduan unik antara budaya dan keindahan alam, dapat semakin meningkatkan daya tariknya bagi wisatawan dengan sabun ramah lingkungan sebagai produk baru.
“Kami berharap sabun ramah lingkungan ini tidak hanya menjunjung tinggi etos hidup berkelanjutan di pulau ini, tetapi juga membuka jalan bagi prospek ekonomi yang lebih baik,” tambah Sofiah.
Dalam gambaran yang lebih besar, inisiatif seperti lokakarya pembuatan sabun ini lebih dari sekedar memproduksi barang-barang rumah tangga.

Fokusnya adalah pada keterlibatan masyarakat, membina lingkungan pembelajaran, dan menjadikan keberlanjutan sebagai gerakan akar rumput.
Seperti yang terlihat di Pulau Panggang, ketika sebuah komunitas bersatu dengan pengetahuan dan tujuan, kemungkinannya tidak terbatas.
