Shannon Bartlett berjuang menurunkan berat badannya di sepanjang hidupnya dengan mencoba pola diet “yo-yo” sampai ia menjadi inspirasi dan role model untuk banyak orang.
“Nothing really stuck with me, and it was so difficult.” Berat badan selalu menjadi topik yang sensitif bagi saya dan penuh perjuangan untuk mempertahankannya.” Kata Shannon pada Popsugar.
Kelebihan berat badan sedari kecil, Shannon mulai aktif berolahraga di masa SMA dan juga aktif dalam kegiatan perkuliahannya, tetapi ia mengaku bahwa ia kurang konsisten.
Shannon mencoba beberapa pola diet dan program pengurusan berat badan, sayangnya, yang ia lakukan hanya berhasil dalam waktu singkat. Ia kecewa ketika usahanya menurunkan berat badan sia-sia dan malah kembali ke semula, padahal ia sudah berusaha.
Di bulan Januari 2019, Shannon saat itu umur 28 tahun dengan berat badan 235 pound (106.5 kg). Hal ini membulatkan tekadnya untuk break the cycle dan menerapkan pola hidup lebih sehat.
Resolusi Tahun Baru Terwujud
Setelah menghabiskan waktu berlibur dengan saudara laki-lakinya, Shannon menemukan bahwa saudaranya berhasil menurunkan berat badan dengan pola diet intermittent fasting. Merasa terinspirasi, Shannon pun mulai mengikuti jejaknya.
“Saya menyadari ada perubahan dari dirinya, jadi saya memanggilnya dan bertanya bagaimana saya bisa melakukannya.” Kata Shannon
Karena merasa termotivasi dan ingin tahu, tidak lama kemudian ia pun melakukan diet 16:8 intermittent fasting ini.
“Sebelumnya saya pikir diet ini akan sulit untuk dijalankan sehingga membuat saya merasa gugup untuk memulainya. Tetapi, setelah saya melaluinya ternyata ini diet termudah yang pernah saya lakukan untuk menguruskan badan.”

Shannon mengambil segala kesempatan supaya berhasil menurunkan berat badannya dengan mengeliminasi berbagai jenis makanan kaleng dan alkohol untuk menunjang program dietnya.
“Jujur saya selalu tidak konsisten dalam berolahraga. Saya mengikuti beberapa kelas zumba 1 sampai 2 kali seminggu, tetapi hanya berlangsung dua bulan selama perjalanan pengurusan badan yang saya lakukan.” Ingatnya
Lebih dari 10 bulan lamanya, penata acara berasal dari San Diego ini kehilangan berat badan sebanyak 85 pound.
Dia selalu mengamati progresnya dengan menimbang berat badan setiap hari. Setiap angka pada timbangan selalu menjadi pengingat bahwa dia melakukan hal yang benar.
